General Motors Is Headed For Bankruptcy — Again

By Louis Woodhill via Forbes

President Obama is proud of his bailout of General Motors.  That’s good, because, if he wins a second term, he is probably going to have to bail GM out again.  The company is once again losing market share, and it seems unable to develop products that are truly competitive in the U.S. market.

Right now, the federal government owns 500,000,000 shares of GM, or about 26% of the company.  It would need to get about $53.00/share for these to break even on the bailout, but the stock closed at only $20.21/share on Tuesday.  This left the government holding $10.1 billion worth of stock, and sitting on an unrealized loss of $16.4 billion.

Right now, the government’s GM stock is worth about 39% less than it was on November 17, 2010, when the company went public at $33.00/share.  However, during the intervening time, the Dow Jones Industrial Average has risen by almost 20%, so GM shares have lost 49% of their value relative to the Dow.

It’s doubtful that the Obama administration would attempt to sell off the government’s massive position in GM while the stock price is falling.  It would be too embarrassing politically.  Accordingly, if GM shares continue to decline, it is likely that Obama would ride the stock down to zero.

GM is unlikely to hit the wall before the election, but, given current trends, the company could easily do so again before the end of a second Obama term.

In the 1960s, GM averaged a 48.3% share of the U.S. car and truck market.  For the first 7 months of 2012, their market share was 18.0%, down from 20.0% for the same period in 2011.  With a loss of market share comes a loss of relative cost-competitiveness.  There is only so much market share that GM can lose before it would no longer have the resources to attempt to recover.

To help understand why GM keeps losing market share, let’s look at the saga of the Chevy Malibu.

The Malibu is GM’s entry in the automobile market’s “D-Segment”.  The D-Segment comprises mid-size, popularly priced, family sedans, like the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord.  The D-Segment accounted for 14.7% of the total U.S. vehicle market in 2011, and 21.3% during the first 7 months of 2012.

Because the D-Segment is the highest volume single vehicle class in the U.S., and the U.S. is GM’s home market, it is difficult to imagine how GM could survive long term unless it can profitably develop, manufacture, and market a vehicle that can hold its own in the D-Segment.  This is true not only because of the revenue potential of the D-Segment, but also because of what an also-ran Malibu would say about GM’s ability to execute at this time in its history.

GM is in the process of introducing a totally redesigned 2013 Chevy Malibu.  It will compete in the D-Segment with, among others, the following: the Ford Fusion (totally redesigned for 2013); the Honda Accord (totally redesigned for 2013); the Hyundai Sonata (totally redesigned for 2011); the Nissan Altima (totally redesigned for 2013); the Toyota Camry (refreshed for 2013); and the Volkswagen Passat (totally redesigned for 2012).

Automobile technology is progressing so fast that the best vehicle in a given segment is usually just the newest design in that segment.  Accordingly, if a car company comes out with a new, completely redesigned vehicle, it had better be superior to the older models being offered by its competitors.  If it is not, the company will spend the next five years (the usual time between major redesigns in this segment) losing market share and/or offering costly “incentives” to “move the metal”.

While Dan Akerson is busy rearranging the deck chairs on GM’s Titanic, Martin Winterkorn is leading VW to world domination via technical excellence.

“The game isn’t over until it’s over”, but if President Obama wins reelection, he should probably start giving some serious thought to how he is going to justify bailing out GM, and its unionized UAW workforce, yet again.  And, during the current campaign, Obama might want to be a little more modest about what he actually achieved by bailing out GM the first time.

Obama’s Energy Department Sneaks 30-year Offshore Moratorium Past Public

By Thomas J. Pyle via The Washington Times

While the Obama administration was taking a victory lap last week after the 5-4 Supreme Court decision to uphold the president’s signature legislative accomplishment, Obamacare, the Interior Department was using the media black hole to release a much-awaited five-year plan for offshore drilling. That plan reinstitutes a 30-year moratorium on offshore energy exploration that will keep our most promising resources locked away until long after President Obama begins plans for his presidential library. Given the timing, it is clear that the self-described “all of the above” energy president didn’t want the American people to discover that he was denying access to nearly 98 percent of America’s vast energy potential on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS).

The Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act (OCSLA) of 1953 provided the interior secretary with the authority to administer mineral exploration and development off our nation’s coastlines. At its most basic level, the act empowers the interior secretary – in this case, former U.S. Sen. Kenneth L. Salazar of Colorado – to provide oil and gas leases to the highest-qualified bidder while establishing guidelines for implementing an oil and gas exploration-and-development program for the Outer Continental Shelf. In 1978, in the wake of the oil crisis and spiking gasoline prices, Congress amended the act to require a series of five-year plans that provide a schedule for the sale of oil and gas leases to meet America’s national energy needs.

But since taking office, Mr. Obama and Mr. Salazar have worked to restrict access to our offshore oil and gas resources by canceling lease sales, delaying others and creating an atmosphere of uncertainty about America’s future offshore development that has left job creators looking for other countries’ waters to host their offshore rigs. More than 3 1/2 years into the Obama regime, nearly 86 billion barrels of undiscovered oil on the Outer Continental Shelf remain off-limits to Americans. Alaska alone has about 24 billion barrels of oil in unleased federal waters. The Commonwealth of Virginia – where Mr. Obama has reversed policies that would have allowed offshore development – is home to 130 million barrels of offshore oil and 1.14 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. But thanks to the president, Virginians will have to wait at least another five years before they can begin creating the jobs that will unlock their offshore resources.

Once you add those restrictions to the vast amount of shale oil that is being blocked, the administration has embargoed nearly 200 years of domestic oil supply. No wonder the administration wanted to slip its plan for the OCS under the radar when the whole country was focused on the health care decision.

But facts are stubborn things, and the Obama administration cannot run forever from its abysmal energy record. In the past three years, the government has collected more than 250 times less revenue from offshore lease sales than it did during the last year of the George W. Bush administration – down from $9.48 billion in 2008 to a paltry $36 million last year. Meanwhile, oil production on federal lands dropped 13 percent last year, and the number of annual leases is down more than 50 percent from the Clinton era.

Under the new Obama plan, those numbers will only get worse. The 2012-17 plan leaves out the entire Atlantic and Pacific coasts and the vast majority of OCS areas off Alaska. It cuts in half the average number of lease sales per year, requires higher minimum bids and shorter lease periods and dramatically reduces lease terms. Yet, somehow, we’re supposed to believe that our “all of the above” president is responsible for increased production and reduced oil import.

With oil hovering around $85 a barrel and nationwide gas prices nearly double what they were when Mr. Obama took office, you’d think the administration might implement a sensible plan to promote robust job creation and safe offshore energy development. Instead, what we get is the latest phase in the Obama administration’s war on affordable energy, filed under cover of media darkness while the nation was swallowing its Obamacare medicine.

Thomas J. Pyle is president of the Institute for Energy Research.

More Corruption? Recordings reveal Obama officials pressured contractors to change job loss figures

By  via Washington Free Beacon

U.S. Dept of Interior, Office of Surface Minin...Obama administration officials may have pressured government contractors to change job loss estimates associated with coal regulations, audio recordings reveal.

The tapes show that unnamed officials with the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSM) asked government contractors to change their calculations of job losses associated with the Stream Protection Rule.

A preliminary draft of an environmental impact statement estimated that up to 7,000 coalminers could lose their jobs under the administration’s “preferred” regulation. After a leaked copy of the report went public, officials asked the contractors to compare job estimates to a model in which another regulation was enforced, rather than the real world numbers.

“It’s not the real world, this is rulemaking,” an OSM official tells a skeptical contractor on the recording.

“If we’re to assume [the 2008 rule] is enforced in the coal-producing states, this is a very small [impact],” the contractor replies. “But that, as you said, is not the real world, that’s pretending … I thought we were looking at what’s going to change in Kentucky, what’s going to change in Pennsylvania, what’s going to change in Ohio, what’s going to change in Wyoming.”

When a second OSM official makes light of the “theoretical discussion,” the contractor shoots back that “his [the OSM official’s proposed criteria] was theoretical, mine was practical.”

The agency fired the contractors studying the rule less than one month later.

The House Natural Resources Committee obtained the tapes from an unidentified third party after OSM provided heavily redacted transcripts—the exchange above, for example, was blacked out—and withheld the audio recordings.

Rep. Bill Johnson (R., Ohio) blasted the administration’s refusal to cooperate with the investigation.

“The tapes validated many of our concerns that the administration went into this with an intent of devastating the coal industry, fully knowing that the provisions in the proposed rule would put 7,000 jobs at risk,” he said. “And they wanted to get away with it by playing pretend.”

The committee has served OSM with two subpoenas since the beginning of the year. Department officials denied any wrongdoing and accused the committee of launching a political witch-hunt.

“The documents reflect the fact that there is a lot of analysis, discussion, and input that’s needed if we’re going to have a balanced rule that continues to support the development of important domestic resources,” Department of the Interior spokesman Adam Fetcher said. “We look forward to the Committee’s input on the substantive issues at any time, including once a rule is proposed, but the Committee’s cherry-picking of the documents to manufacture a false narrative shows again that their investigation is about politics, not good policymaking.”

Contractors and officials acknowledged in the closed-door meetings that rewriting the rule would be “atomic” for small businesses and start-up coal operations and worried aloud that spending $200 million per year to protect only 15 miles of stream in high unemployment regions such as Appalachia would be a hard “sell.”

Since 1983, mining companies have conducted operations while maintaining a 100-foot barrier between their activities and streams.

The rule, known originally as the Stream Buffer Zone Rule, was never codified and has been loosely enforced. George W. Bush signed an official Stream Buffer Zone rule in 2008 that maintained the 100-foot restriction, but also included more exemptions for mining companies to conduct operations within the barrier.

When Obama came into office, he ordered OSM to rewrite the rule to please his environmentalist base. OSM has spent more than $5 million studying the impacts of sediment run off and water protection and hopes to release an official rule proposal later this year.

Former contractors who studied the rule told the Washington Free Beacon that such a calculation would have made job losses seem smaller, but also denied that OSM acted inappropriately.

The committee released the tapes on Friday. OSM officials have until May 24 to respond to a second subpoena from the committee. Johnson pledged to continue pushing for transparency at the agency.

“We’re going to keep marching down this path,” he said. “We’re not going to stop until we get a full accounting of why the administration has chosen to rewrite this rule and why they are going about it in a speedy, haphazard way.”

Fetcher said that OSM has fully cooperated with the committee, providing it with more than 13,000 pages of documents detailing the history of the rule.

He did not respond to an email asking if the department would release the recordings before the deadline, however.

Conservatives Hate Science (Fiction)

Kasey Jachim:

“It is often argued that Conservatives and Libertarians do not believe in science since we overwhelmingly reject the theory of Global Warming.” Funny, so do many of the scientists who were duped into falsifying data to support the liberal agenda. According to Al Gore and friends, the level of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere causes a trapping of the suns’ heat; thus warming up the planet (i.e. Greenhouse effect).  The Natural Resources Defense Council reports that coal burning plants are the number one contributor to the problem as they produce 2.5 billion tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.  The second biggest contributor would be automobiles as they…

The tab for U.N.’s Rio summit: Trillions per year in taxes, transfers and price hikes

By  via Fox News

The upcoming United Nations environmental conference on sustainable development will consider  a breathtaking array of carbon taxes, transfers of trillions of dollars from wealthy countries to poor ones, and new spending programs to guarantee that populations around the world are protected from the effects of the very programs the world organization wants to implement, according to stunning U.N. documents examined  by Fox News.

The main goal of the much-touted, Rio + 20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, scheduled to be held in Brazil from June 20-23, and which Obama Administration officials have supported,  is to make dramatic and enormously expensive changes  in the way that the world does nearly everything—or, as one of the documents puts it, “a fundamental shift in the way we think and act.”

Among the proposals on how the “challenges can and must be addressed,” according to U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon:

–More than $2.1 trillion a year in wealth transfers from rich countries to poorer ones, in the name of fostering “green infrastructure, ”  “climate adaptation” and other “green economy” measures.

–New carbon taxes for industrialized countries that could cost about $250 billion a year, or 0.6 percent of Gross Domestic Product, by 2020. Other environmental taxes are mentioned, but not specified.

–Further unspecified price hikes that extend beyond fossil fuels to anything derived from agriculture, fisheries, forestry, or other kinds of land and water use, all of which would be radically reorganized. These cost changes would “contribute to a more level playing field between established, ‘brown’ technologies and newer, greener ones.”

– Major global social spending programs, including a “social protection floor” and “social safety nets” for the world’s most vulnerable social groups  for reasons of “equity.”

–Even more social benefits for those displaced by the green economy revolution—including those put out of work in undesirable fossil fuel industries. The benefits, called “investments,”  would include “access to nutritious food, health services, education, training and retraining, and unemployment benefits.”

–A guarantee that if those sweeping benefits weren’t enough, more would be granted. As one of the U.N. documents puts it:  “Any adverse effects of changes in prices of goods and services vital to the welfare of vulnerable groups must be compensated for and new livelihood opportunities provided.”

That  huge catalogue of taxes and spending is described optimistically as “targeted investments  in human and social capital on top of investments in natural capital and green physical capital,” and is accompanied by the claim that it will all, in the long run, more than pay for itself.

But the whopping green “investment” list  barely scratches the surface of the mammoth exercise in global social engineering that is envisaged in the U.N. documents, prepared by the Geneva-based United Nations Environmental Management Group (UNEMG), a consortium of 36 U.N. agencies, development banks  and environmental bureaucracies, in advance of the Rio session.

An earlier version of the report was presented  at a closed door session of the U.N.’s top bureaucrats during a Long Island retreat last October, where Rio was discussed as a “unique opportunity” to drive an expanding U.N. agenda for years ahead.

Click here for more on this story from Fox News.

Under the ungainly title of Working Towards a Balanced and Inclusive Green Economy, A United Nations System-Wide Perspective,  the  final version of the 204-page report is intended to “contribute” to preparations for the Rio + 20 summit, where one of the two themes is “the green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication. ”  (The other theme is “the institutional framework for sustainable development” –sometimes known as global environmental governance.)

But in fact, it also lays out new roles for private enterprise, national governments, and a bevy of socialist-style worker, trade and citizens’ organizations in creating a sweeping international social reorganization, all closely monitored by regulators and governments to maintain environmental “sustainability” and “human equity.”

“Transforming the global economy will require action locally (e.g., through land use planning), at the national level (e.g., through energy-use regulations) and at the international level (e.g., through technology diffusion),” the document says. It involves “profound changes in economic systems, in resource efficiency, in the composition of global demand, in production and consumption patterns and a major transformation in public policy-making.”  It will also require “a serious rethinking of lifestyles in developed countries.”

As the report puts it, even though “the bulk of green investments will come from the private sector,” the “role of the public sector… is indispensable for influencing the flow of private financing.”  It adds that the green economy model “recognizes the value of markets, but is not tied to markets as the sole or best solution to all problems.”

Among other countries, the report particularly lauds China as “a good example of combining investments and public policy incentives to encourage major advances in the development of cleaner technologies.”

Along those lines, it says, national governments need to reorganize themselves to ” collectively design fiscal and tax policies as well as policies on how to use the newly generated revenue”  from their levies. There,  “U.N. entities can help governments and others to find the most appropriate ways of phasing out harmful subsidies while combining that with the introduction of new incentive schemes to encourage positive steps forward.”

U.N. organizations can also “encourage the ratification of relevant international agreements, assist the Parties to implement and comply with related obligations…and build capacity, including that of legislators at national and sub-national levels to prepare and ensure compliance with regulations and standards.”

The report declares that “scaled-up and accelerated international cooperation” is required, with new coordination at “the international, sub-regional, and regional levels.”  Stronger regulation is needed, and “to avoid the proliferation of national regulations and standards, the use of relevant international standards is essential” — an area where the U.N. can be very helpful, the report indicates.

The U.N. is also ready to supply new kinds of statistics to bolster and measure the changes that the organization foresees—including indicators that do away with old notions of economic growth and progress and replace them with new statistics. One example: “the U.N. System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA), which will become an internationally agreed statistical framework in 2012.”

These changes, the authors reassure readers, will  only be done in line with the “domestic development agendas” of the countries involved.

“A green economy is not a one-size-fits-all path towards sustainable development,” an executive summary of the report declares.   Instead it is a “dynamic policy toolbox” for local decision-makers, who can decide to use it optionally.

But even so, the  tools are intended for only one final aim. And they have the full endorsement  of U.N. Secretary General Ban, who declares in a forward to the document that “only such integrated approach will lay lasting foundations for peace and sustainable development,” and calls the upcoming Rio conclave a “generational opportunity” to act.

Can President Obama Name ONE Clean Energy Success?

By via Heritage Action

President Barack Obama speaks at the Departmen...

UPDATE 4-20-12: First Solar, which received $1.46 billion in loan guarantees, announced on Tuesday that it will lay off another 2,000 employees. In December, the company announced it would lay off 100 employees. The Export-Import bank also subsidizes First Solar.

UPDATE 4-10-12: The Willard & Kelsey Solar Group claimed they only received money from Ohio taxpayers. The Ohio-based solar company has gone bankrupt, and according to (the website set up so that taxpayers could track the money they spent in the “stimulus”) they actually received $6 million from U.S. taxpayers thanks to President Obama’s “green” energy loan program. The company received this money, despite recording just over $500,000 in revenue in 2009 (which was a grant from the state) and a loss of $4.2 million. Money well spent!

UPDATE 4-5-12: A123 Systems, an electric vehicle battery manufacturer which shipped faulty batteries to Fisker Automotive, has seen it’s stock fall to less than $1 and is filing for bankruptcy. It is now fighting a class action lawsuit because of the faulty batteries, charged with deceiving the public, artificially inflating its market price and causing investors to purchase stock at the artificially inflated price. A123 received $279 million from taxpayers thanks to President Obama’s Department of Energy loan guarantees.

Our biggest enemy is not China, Russia, North Korea or Iran . Our biggest enemy is a contingent of politicians in Washington , DC . The government will not help, so we need to do it ourselves.

Question….will you delete this, or pass it on to others who don’t know about Obama’s actions and plans for the USA, so that they may know how to vote in November, 2012 and the ensuing years?

It’s your decision. I believe it does matter. How about you?

WHEN – November 2012, it WILL matter who you VOTE for! (or AGAINST !!!)

The Global Warming Hoax is Now Killing People

By Alan Caruba via Tea Party Nation

By Friday, February 10th, an estimated 500 Europeans had died from the freezing weather gripping the continent. This is the price they and British citizens are paying for embracing the global warming hoax, spending billions for wind power when they should have been building coal-fired and other sources of energy to heat their homes and businesses.

As the British daily, The Telegraph, reported on Friday, “Serbia has started implementing power cuts in a desperate bid to stave off the collapse of its national grid as the country suffers the effects of days of freezing temperatures.”

I and others have been warning for years that the Earth has been cooling since 1998 and that the planet is on the cusp of a new ice age because the average length of an interglacial period of warmth between such ages is now coming to an end after the passage of some 11,500 years.

All aspects of global warming legislation and spending programs must be utterly reversed if we are not going to see huge losses of life and the disruption of entire economies.

The Ottawa Citizen published an Agence France Presse article on Friday reporting that “Thick ice closed vast swaths of the Danube on Thursday, crippling shipping on Europe’s busiest waterway, as the death toll from bitter cold across the continent rose…as it has every day for nearly two weeks.” The report noted that “Navigation was impossible or restricted in Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Austria, as ice covered the river or formed dangerous floes in shipping lanes.”

No shipping means no delivery of coal and oil and no shipping of food and other necessities. Europe is freezing over as the United States has been experiencing an unusually mild winter thus far. That, too, is likely to yield to the increased cooling of the planet and then, maybe, Americans will realize the threat to their lives that the closing of coal-fired plants, instigated by the Environmental Protection Agency, really means.

In England, the Mail, reported on Sunday, February 12th, that large numbers of its elderly citizens are being “frozen to death as fuel bills soar: hypothermia cases among the elderly double in five years.” England, now gripped by foolish green notions of renewable energy, has covered itself with wind turbines, despoiling its countryside and coasts while proving unreliable and incapable of meeting its energy needs.

Figures showed that “1,876 patients were treated in hospital for hypothermia in 2010-2011, up from 950 in 2006-2007” reported the Mail. “Three-quarters of victims were pensioners, with cases soaring among the over-60s more than any other age group.”

In Europe, other news organizations reported that “Many of the dead were homeless people, who literally froze to death as the temperatures dropped to minus 50 degrees in some parts of the continent. Their bodies were found in the streets buried under snow, in rivers, and in doorways. Dozens of people were also killed in weather-related accidents.”

Writing in a Turkish newspaper, the Hurriyet Daily News, Sophie Quintin Adali, an analyst for a project of the Atlas Economic Research Foundation, said, “As if the debt crisis weren’t bad enough news, the climate freeze sweeping across Europe is wreaking havoc by severely disrupting travel, business and people’s lives. Local authorities, indeed whole countries, are caught poorly prepared.” Turkey is experiencing record snowfall and low temperatures.

“The lack of readiness should come as no surprise because for decades the sensationalist message of global warming has dominated the public area,” said Ms. Adali.

“Politicians and decades of political environmentalism have a lot to answer for,” said Ms. Adali. “The man-made climate theory…is still supported by a mighty European Union bureaucracy and a green network addicted to public funds.” Even now, the Green Climate Fund “through which millions of taxpayer’s money will still be disbursed” is threatening the lives and the economy of people worldwide.

The current freeze is not just affecting Europe, but reaching across the Mediterranean to North African nations. And at some point America will feel it too.

We have not built a single new nuclear plant in America since 1978. EPA rules are forcing the closure of coal-fired plants throughout the nation. The national grid for the distribution of electricity is in need of upgrades.

The nation’s policies are controlled by the most environmentally insane administration in its history, wasting billions on so-called green energy. Its new budget raises taxes and proposes a trillion-dollar deficit without any significant effort to cut the spending that has left this and future generations in debt while the price of gas soars to new heights.

America and the rest of the world have been horribly deceived by the United Nations Intergovernmental Climate Change Panel that continues to drive the global warming hoax. The lying scientists who got on the global warming gravy train, the politicians that embraced it, and the media that misled millions are all culpable, all responsible.

They should be driven from office, defunded, and chased through the streets like villagers in pursuit of Frankenstein.

People are freezing to death in their homes and in the streets. What will it take to drive a stake into the heart of the global warming monster?

Pushing Back the Socialist Agenda in Education

By Dr. Ileana Johnson Paugh,November 28, 2011, Canada Free Press

As the Americans’ indifference to the destruction of our country intensifies, the indoctrination and brainwashing from the left of our citizens and of their children accelerates.

I watched during Thanksgiving a National Geographic special on the pilgrims landing at Jamestown, Virginia. The strong environmentalist language shocked me.

Claiming that Europeans completely deforested the land, overfished to the point of emptying the lakes and rivers and causing a severe reduction of the teeming fish population, and of their size, was outrageous. Impressionable minds, who hear such broad, sweeping statements, are misled by design because no scientific data or evidence is offered to support these claims.

The video continued that Europeans have brought with seeds of wheat and grain weeds such as dandelion, thus causing “biological imperialism.” If wind carries seeds of plants and weeds over large swaths of land in the natural process of plant life, is it still called “biological imperialism?”

These ridiculous statements fall in line with the environmental agenda of “man as the destroyer of the planet.”  The earth is in danger because man has caused global warming and only by destroying our economic system, drastically reducing human population, and returning to a primitive lifestyle would assure the survival of the globe.

I can see how frightening these made-up scenarios could be to an innocent young mind or the uninformed. Virginia is covered with beautiful lush forests. Areas where wood was harvested are restocked with seedlings for many reasons. Soil erosion prevention is one such important component of forest replacement.

Channel One News: Communism, platitudes, empty promises, lies, and slogans

As my children were growing up, Channel One News was part of their curriculum on a daily basis. Budding television stars on the left side of the political spectrum were indoctrinating students on issues dear to the heart of the left. Most parents had no idea that their children received such a one-sided view of the world but I knew. Having lived under communism, I could recognize all the platitudes, empty promises, lies, and slogans.

Perusing Channel One News recently, I found the following links: The Obama Administration, U.S., World, Politics, Science, Revolution Earth, Life, Music, Teachers, and Quizzes.

One of the videos touted National Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15-October 15, in honor of the anniversaries of independence of Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Mexico. Who knew that celebrating the anniversaries of independence of South American countries was so important that we had to have a National Hispanic Heritage Month? As the video says, the face of America is changing and diversity is paramount. This is contradicting our country’s founding principles of “unity.” The leftist immigration policies emphasize “diversity.” The contributions of Hispanics to America included in the video were Sonya Sotomayor, a baseball player, and some unknown singer.

Under Teaching Tools, there were lesson plans on history, sociology, and environmentalism: The History of Thanksgiving, The History of Hate, Our Disposable Lives, Mexican Drug Cartels, and The Haves and Have-Nots. The seeds of class envy, bigotry, and hate were planted solidly in these videos.  Disliking something or disagreeing with someone was presented as hate.

Under “The Obama Administration” link, Channel One headlined, “Obama pops into bookstore, backs small businesses.” Given the economic depression and the high unemployment rate in the country, this was hardly a truthful statement.  Under “White House Profile, Channel One presented our president, “His life story, now familiar to many people, is unique but also quintessentially American.” This was definitely Soviet style disinformation.

Revolution Earth was highlighting the Nature Conservancy with its Leaders for Environmental Action for the Future (LEAF) internships slated for environmental careers in green transportation solutions, protecting and caring for the environment. The video stated that such fields earn 25% more than non-environmental careers and the environmental green job field is growing three times as much as other jobs. Twisting the facts was bad enough. No mention was made of all the bankruptcies of alternative energy sources or the faux “green jobs.”

Videos on biofuels, electric cars, going green, pollution cruise, green holiday shopping, oil spills, and the proverbial polar bears completed the environmental indoctrination and brainwashing.

A whole section was dedicated to Islam and the Ground Zero mosque but no mention was made of the Christian persecution in the Middle East and all the killings and torture of innocents. The only mention of Christianity was in the headline, “It’s beginning to look a lot like Xmas at the White House,” not spelling out Christmas but using the Greek X as in the inscriptions found in the catacombs in Rome when Christians had to go underground to hide their religion.

A video was dedicated to the “growing white Nazi hate groups,” exaggerating the numbers and the influence they have, and painting them as the Americans on the border fighting illegal immigration, making the disingenuous inference that those who oppose illegal immigration and want the laws of the land enforced are haters.

One of my readers named Frank had a very interesting comment about illegal immigration. “You catch a burglar in YOUR house who insists that you built YOUR house FOR HIM. He demands that you move out to make room for him and all his friends and relatives. If you refuse to do this, you are a racist, bigot, homophobe, intolerant hate-monger, and whatever else the usurper can think of to intimidate you into surrendering your birthright to him. He calls this social plunder “redistribution of wealth,” and “social justice.” I quoted Frank because this is exactly the mentality inculcated into our children’s minds by the educational establishment.

Home schooling is beginning to gain more traction with many parents who want to avoid their children’s socialist indoctrination in public schools. As Christopher Wright found out, Georgetown Law Center Professor, Robin L. West, made curious, fallacious, and uninformed arguments against home schooling.

  • “Most home schooled children have fundamentalist Protestant parents who teach their kids ‘nothing but the Bible’”
  • Homeschooled children are at higher risk for child abuse”
  • “Other harms justify strict regulation of homeschooling including curriculum reviews and invasive home visits”
  • “It was a crime to keep children home from school until 30 years ago”

None of our Founding Fathers was the product of public schools yet they were brilliant. Students were doing quite well prior to 1979 when the Department of Education was established. Statistical data show that the level of education and student performance have decreased since 1979.

Homeschooled children represent every demographic imaginable – pagans, atheists, lower income, upper income, conservative, liberal, Ph.D.’s, GED’s. Doctoral student Jeremy E. Uecker from the University of Texas conducted a nationwide phone survey in 2008 and “found very little effect of homeschooling on any aspect of adolescents’ religious views.”  “Only 17 percent of suspected abuse reports are submitted by education personnel.”(Christopher Wright)

Public school advocates, educational lefties, academics, and Marxists want “social engineering” of our children’s minds, as Dewey wrote, “social reconstruction,” well known in the circles of communism.

Textbooks are generally written by college professors to slant history in the direction of the leftist view with total disregard for historical accuracy. An effort by the Prince William County Tea Party is underway in the State of Virginia to review all textbooks for accuracy of content. There are 11 states across the country that either have completed or are doing textbook reviews.

“Our Living Constitution Then and Now,” a textbook used for grades 5-8 in American History classes, teaches our children that “Rights are special privileges the government gives you. You are also given the right to choose a religion.” The government does not give you a right; you have a God-given right. “The Bill of Rights lists the freedoms given to citizens.” Actually, the Bill of Rights lists the freedoms granted by the Constitution. “Because the government gives us rights, we have the duty to be good citizens. But what does it mean to be a good citizen? How can you be a part of giving back for the freedom you have?”  The government does not give us rights and we are not required to give back restitution for our rights. The fallacies and falsehoods in this book alone are astounding.

“On July 14, 2005, Governor Pawlenty signed the 128-page Minnesota Omnibus bill into law called The American Heritage in Public Education Act. Included are two important paragraphs that encourage schools to teach America’s Founding Principles from original sources and prevent the censorship of religious reference from those sources. Teachers can now introduce their students to America’s uncensored Judeo-Christian heritage without fear.” (

In a Virginia High School AP History Class, students were forbidden to use any outside help/reference/access to information or opinion for their work under the threat of disciplinary action and a failing grade. The students could not even discuss their assignments with their parents. Parent Amy Fuentes was shocked. The Westfield High School’s explanation was that the move was intended to create a level-playing field for all students because some did not have access to information. I found this hard to believe since most classrooms have computers; their libraries have computers, encyclopedias, and other reference sources. Furthermore, Fairfax County is one of the richest counties in the nation. Students were not allowed to discuss ideas, opinions, or ask questions of anybody but the teacher. This was an obvious attempt to control what students thought, allowing only the teacher’s point of view and that of the textbook writers.

Delegate Rich Anderson, R-Woodbridge, now leads the State Commission on Civics in Education. The purpose of the commission is “to educate students on the importance of citizen involvement in a representative democracy, the promotion of the study of state and local government among the commonwealth citizenry, and the enhancement of communication and collaboration among organizations in the commonwealth that conduct civics education programs.”

Adam Schaeffer, policy analyst with the Cato Center for Educational Freedom, argues in “The Public Education Tax Credit“ that “Educational freedom can most effectively be realized through nonrefundable education tax credits – for both parents’ education costs for their own children and taxpayer donations to nonprofit scholarship funds; tax credits enjoy practical, legal, and political advantages over school vouchers.”

Schaeffer says, “Vouchers are grants of government funds, while tax credits are private funds.” The U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Arizona Christian School Tuition Organization v. Winn explained the distinction.

Colorado stopped its voucher program because of a state constitutional provision that does not allow charitable, educational, industrial, or benevolent appropriations to any person, corporation, or community under the absolute control of the state.  Pennsylvania has a similar provision with exception for higher education.

American parents have begun to push back the socialist agenda and the public school indoctrination that their children have been subjected to for the past 40 years. This indoctrination is bearing fruit in the anarchic societal and economic confusion of the Occupy Wall Street denizens.

The New Renaissance in Education (NRIE) promotes “a curriculum to teach America’s heritage to the next generation: liberty and limited government, America’s documents, America’s cultural heritage, free market economics, and western intellectual tradition.” This worthy educational program should spread across the nation with the help of dedicated parents, teachers, and freedom loving Americans.

Six Pro-Growth Reforms in the American Energy & Infrastructure Jobs Act

Posted by Kevin Smith via Speaker John Boehner

Official portrait of United States House Speak...

This week, House Republicans formally introduced the American Energy & Infrastructure Jobs Act (H.R. 7), which will support American job creation by removing government barriers to long-term economic growth, particularly in the production of American-made energy.  The bill lowers government barriers to responsible production of American-made energy and uses the revenues to repair and improve America’s transportation infrastructure, which is critical to our economy’s ability to function.  By lowering government barriers to American energy production and reforming the process by which Washington funds infrastructure projects, the bill will support the creation of more than one million private-sector jobs, lower gas prices, and repair our nation’s roads and bridges – with no earmarks.

Instead of more ‘stimulus’ spending or wasteful earmarks, the bill includes major reforms that will help to clear the way for long-term U.S. economic growth – a stark contrast to the meddling, micromanaging, and manipulating Washington has done in the past under majorities of both parties.  It slashes bureaucratic red tape, gives greater control to states and local communities, and ensures taxpayer dollars are spent on high-priority infrastructure projects that support economic growth and job creation– rather than bike paths and beautification efforts.

While Republicans support projects to repair and rebuild America’s aging transportation infrastructure, this is a different kind of infrastructure bill than the ones written under either party in the past.  Here are six pro-growth reforms included in the American Energy & Infrastructure Jobs Act (H.R. 7):

1. Reforms the Highway Trust Fund Financing System, Removes Barriers to Job Creation. Instead of destroying jobs by increasing gasoline taxes on every American, which some Democrats have proposed, the bill removes barriers to private-sector job creation and pays for infrastructure improvements through expanded American energy production.  The measure would help create more than one million jobs by:

  • Lifting President Obama’s drilling ban on new offshore areas by requiring the administration to lease offshore areas estimated to contain the most oil and natural gas resources;
  • Setting clear rules for the development of U.S. oil shale resources and promoting shale technology research and development; and
  • Opening less than three percent of ANWR’s 19 million acres in the North Slope, an area that was specifically set aside by Congress and President Jimmy Carter, for oil and natural gas development.

2. Eliminates Earmarks & Wasteful Spending.  The bill contains zero earmarks and includes reforms to ensure that funding is targeted to high-priority projects, not wasteful spending such as beautification and bike paths.  Highway bills became a major vehicle for earmarks in the 1980s under a Democratic Congress, a practice that continued and unfortunately expanded under majorities of both parties over the next two decades.  According to the Congressional Research Service (CRS), the 2005 highway authorization had 5,671 highway earmarks worth $21.7 billion, and the total number of earmarks exceeded 6,300.  The 1998 transportation bill had 1,883 highway earmarks worth $9.6 billion.  The American Energy & Infrastructure Jobs Act includes no earmarks.

3. Ensures Taxpayer Dollars Are Spent on High-Priority Infrastructure ProjectsThe bill ensures that taxpayer dollars are spent on our most critical infrastructure needs.  Currently, just 75 percent of Highway Trust Fund expenditures go to core infrastructure projects, such as the 160,000-mile national highway system that plays a direct role in America’s economy.  Instead, they’re diverted to non-economic projects such as beautification, bike paths, and sidewalk lighting.  The bill eliminates federal mandates that currently force states to spend highway money on non-highway activities, helping to ensure that taxpayer dollars are spent on our most critical infrastructure needs, not wasted on non-highway projects.

4. Speeds Up Bureaucratic Approvals, Cutting Permitting Time in Half. The bill speeds up bureaucratic approvals – the real hurdles delaying improvements to highways, bridges, and other projects – with reforms like concurrent review that will cut the project review and permitting process in half.  Government bureaucracy and red tape in the approval and permitting process creates needless infrastructure project delays and cost increases.  According to the Federal Highway Administration, projects can often take up to 15 years to complete.  This is unacceptable.  A more reasonable process is essential to using our resources more effectively.  When a design flaw caused the collapse of the I-35 bridge in Minnesota in 2007, the replacement was contracted for completion in 437 days and was completed ahead of schedule.  The American Energy & Infrastructure Jobs Act streamlines and condenses the project review process by cutting bureaucratic red tape, allowing federal agencies to review transportation projects concurrently, setting hard deadlines for federal agencies to approve projects, and delegating more decision-making authority to the states.

5. Eliminates Nearly 70 Duplicative Transportation Programs. The bill eliminates and consolidates nearly 70 surface transportation programs that are either duplicative or are not an appropriate role for the federal government.  Currently, there are more than 100 federal surface transportation programs, many of which are duplicative and simply add to the federal bureaucracy.  By eliminating and consolidating these programs, the American Energy & Infrastructure Jobs Act helps ensure that taxpayer dollars are spent wisely on high-priority projects to build and repair America’s roads and bridges.

6. Embraces More Private-Sector Involvement. The bill increases the value of infrastructure resources in various ways, including better leveraging existing federal funds and adopting policies that will attract private-sector involvement.  One example is to build upon the successful Transportation Infrastructure Finance & Innovation Act loan program, which leverages federal dollars with state, local, and private-sector funding to generate additional revenue for infrastructure improvements and job creation.
